How to overcome feelings of worthlessness

When you feel like someone is making you out to be the worthless one that messes everything up, the one who has the least value, the one who isn’t good enough. Maybe you’re the one who’s giving all they have but is still told they need step it up… Unloved, unwanted… I know it can be hard to handle offense but in these moments of emotion force yourself to pause. Close your eyes and confess it to the Lord. In fact, do it right now. Feel Him wrap you up in His arms and cover you with His wings. And hear him say “No. You are not these things. You are My child. You are loved. You are wanted. Trust in me. I will protect you. I will always bring the truth to light.”

To Him you are worth so much more than sparrows.

26“But don’t be afraid of those who threaten you. For the time is coming when everything that is covered will be revealed, and all that is secret will be made known to all. 27What I tell you now in the darkness, shout abroad when daybreak comes. What I whisper in your ear, shout from the housetops for all to hear!
28“Don’t be afraid of those who want to kill your body; they cannot touch your soul. Fear only God, who can destroy both soul and body in hell.j 29What is the price of two sparrows—one copper coink? But not a single sparrow can fall to the ground without your Father knowing it. 30And the very hairs on your head are all numbered.

31So don’t be afraid; you are more valuable to God than a whole flock of sparrows.

32“Everyone who acknowledges me publicly here on earth, I will also acknowledge before my Father in heaven. 33But everyone who denies me here on earth, I will also deny before my Father in heaven.

Matthew 10:26-33

If He watches over all these little birds to make sure they have all they need and knows when each one dies, don’t you think He will do more than supply for your needs as His most valued creation (humanity)? Yes! When you take on His name, He’ll do more than just supply your needs, He longs to make your heart rich too.

Why should you believe how much He values us?

Because He created you!

“Every word of God is pure: he is a shield unto them that put their trust in him.” Proverbs 30:5 KJV

Because Jesus loves you, was crucified for you, and claims you as His child— you have been named a conqueror. Nothing with separate you from His love.

Romans 8:37-39
“No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us. For I am sure that neither death nor life, nor angels nor rulers, nor things present nor things to come, nor powers, nor height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord.”

Because He is overjoyed with you. He loves you and sings over you like a loving parent lulling their beautiful child to sleep.

Zephaniah 3:17
“The Lord your God is in our midst, a mighty one who will save; he will rejoice over you with gladness; he will quiet you by his love; he will exult over you with loud singing.”

Because He is your “spokesperson.” You can rest assured that whatever lies are told, nothing is hidden from Him, and He will bring truth to light.

Luke 8:17
“For nothing is hidden that will not become evident, nor anything secret that will not be known and come to light.”

Because Jesus is your protector, your place to run to when trials come.

Psalm 91:4
“He will cover you with His feathers, and under his wings you will find refuge; his faithfulness will be your shield and protection.”

When you do His will, He will be the supplier of your every need.

In the book of Matthew 10, the whole reason why Jesus brings up these sparrows is because the disciples are growing weary; scared of what people are saying, what they will do, all that comes with spreading the Gospel. That’s why Jesus says, “you are worth more than many sparrows.” If He takes care of these birds that are deemed of low worth, don’t you think He will take care of you—his disciple and child? Yeah! He will because no good thing that is done for the Glory of God is ever wasted.

So keep on doing and giving your best regardless of what they think. Keep your head high, because you are the child of the Most High King. No weapon formed against you shall prosper, not even hurtful words. Who is going to give such power and assurance to something that is worthless? Sis, you are far from worthless.

Cast those false thoughts of worthlessness out of your mind. Persevere in the Faith. We are allowed to be tested at times, but praise God! That means a new level of growth is coming!

Your God loves you. And that’s all that matters. Bare His name, keep walking in spirit and in Truth. He will deliver you, and help you fix the things that you can’t fix yourself. He is always faithful. What a mighty God we serve!

Never use God’s love for you as a crutch to remain prideful, though. My big thing is to always self examine through biblical lenses–always knowing and understanding your worth. His love for you and your love for Him should always motivate you to do and be better.
